This holiday came at just the right time. Like many working parents, our days often fall into a predictable routine—sending our child off to school, rushing through work, then hurrying back to pick him up from school or his grandparents’ place. In between, there’s barely space to slow down and truly connect. That’s why family trips mean so much to us—they give us a chance to step away from the daily grind, put schedules on hold, and focus on what really matters: being present with one another.

Bali has always been our go-to for a short yearly escape. We’re drawn to its food, its relaxed vibe, and how easy it is to get there from Singapore. It’s the kind of destination that feels both familiar and refreshing every time.

Like me, Harvey has had sensitive skin since he was young, so sunblock and moisturizer are non-negotiables when we travel. My go-to brand is Ceradan—it’s the one I trust most for his skin. While it’s definitely on the pricier side, it’s proven to be the most effective after trying several alternatives. It’s lightweight, non-sticky, and most importantly, keeps his skin well hydrated throughout the day. Whenever there’s a good deal, I make it a point to stock up. Plus, it’s gentle enough for both kids and adults, which makes packing a little simpler.

That said, packing—especially with a toddler—can still be quite the task. I tend to overpack, particularly when traveling somewhere I’m unsure about in terms of access to essentials or medication. One thing I never skip when heading to Bali is probiotics. They’ve become a travel must-have for us, helping to reduce the risk of the dreaded “Bali Belly,” especially for little ones with more sensitive systems. It’s a small step that goes a long way in giving us peace of mind.

Bali is a dream destination for food lovers and nightlife seekers alike. From humble local warungs to upscale dining spots, there’s something for every craving. The island also comes alive at night, especially in areas like Seminyak and Canggu, where beach clubs, bars, and restaurants create a lively atmosphere. Before becoming parents, we would usually stay in these areas—they’re packed with great food options and are conveniently close to popular beach clubs like Finns Beach Club and Ku De Ta.

Since Harvey came along, though, our travel style has shifted. These days, we gravitate towards Nusa Dua, which offers a quieter and more family-friendly environment. Bali’s accommodation options are incredibly diverse, ranging from budget hostels to luxurious private pool villas. Over the years, we’ve stayed at places like Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort and Conrad Bali, but this trip, we chose The Ritz-Carlton Bali—and it’s been our favorite so far.

Perched on a cliff, the resort offers sweeping panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and direct access to a beautiful stretch of white-sand beach. The warm hospitality and peaceful surroundings made it an especially relaxing stay. Our room was spacious enough for Harvey to run around freely, which made a big difference for us as parents. I didn’t manage to visit the spa this time, but I’ve heard wonderful things—definitely something to look forward to on our next trip.

Most of our day was spent unwinding by the pool, soaking up the sun. Harvey had the time of his life splashing around, while I happily alternated between the water and lounging on a daybed with a cold Bintang Beer in hand—perfect for the Bali heat. One thoughtful detail we appreciated was the complimentary sunblock station by the pool, offering a range of SPF options. We definitely made good use of it, reapplying generously throughout the day to keep sunburn at bay.

Bali, you’ve been everything I didn’t know I needed. From quiet mornings to golden sunsets, every moment felt like a reset. Grateful for the memories, the beauty, and the pause. Until next time
