I’ve been to Taipei many times, but this was my first trip with Harvey. Naturally, our entire itinerary revolved around him.
We stayed at W Taipei, located in the heart of the vibrant Xinyi District, right next to Taipei City Hall and within walking distance of Taipei 101. The location couldn’t have been more convenient, with shopping malls, restaurants, and the city’s energy right at our doorstep.
Visiting in December added an extra layer of magic to the trip. The streets and malls around Xinyi were beautifully decorated with Christmas lights, festive displays, and towering Christmas trees. The cool winter weather, sparkling illuminations, and holiday music created a wonderful Christmas atmosphere that made evening strolls especially memorable. Seeing Taipei dressed up for the festive season while experiencing it through Harvey’s eyes made this trip feel completely different from all my previous visits.

So where do we go around in Taipei?
Woodful Land
One of the highlights of our Taipei trip was visiting Wooderful Land, a unique indoor wooden-themed playground that blends play, creativity, and learning. Unlike typical play centres filled with plastic structures and digital screens, Wooderful Land features more than 50 beautifully crafted wooden games and interactive activities designed to stimulate problem-solving, coordination, and imagination. From wooden bowling and puzzle challenges to hands-on sensory experiences, every corner encourages children and adults to engage with nature-inspired play.
What makes it so special is its focus on sustainability and the warmth of natural wood. The entire space is designed around the concept of bringing a forest into the city, creating an environment that is both educational and therapeutic while fostering family interaction.
For Harvey, it was pure joy. Watching him explore each game with curiosity, determination, and excitement made the experience far more meaningful than any tourist attraction. It wasn’t just about keeping him entertained—it was about seeing him learn, discover, and build confidence through play. In many ways, Wooderful Land became one of the most memorable parts of our Taipei adventure.

Taipei Astronomical Museum
Another memorable stop on our Taipei trip was the Taipei Astronomical Museum. Designed to make astronomy fun and accessible, the museum features interactive exhibits, immersive displays, and hands-on activities that bring the wonders of space to life. From learning about the solar system to exploring planets, stars, and galaxies, there was something fascinating around every corner.
What made the visit especially enjoyable was seeing Harvey’s curiosity spark as he explored the exhibits and discovered new things about the universe. The combination of education and play made it an engaging experience for both children and adults, turning a simple museum visit into a fun family adventure.

One of the highlights of our visit to the Taipei Astronomical Museum was the Cosmic Adventure experience. This interactive space-themed ride takes visitors on a simulated journey through the universe, combining motion effects, visuals, and storytelling to create the feeling of travelling among planets and stars. It was exciting, immersive, and just the right mix of education and entertainment.
The experience was pure wonder for Harvey! Watching his eyes light up as we “travelled” through space and encountered the mysteries of the cosmos made it a truly memorable moment. It transformed astronomy from something to learn about into something he could experience, making our visit both fun and inspiring.

MJ Miniatures &Trains
A visit to MJ Miniatures Museum is like stepping into a world where tiny details tell big stories. What makes this museum so unique is its dedication to the art of miniatures, showcasing handcrafted masterpieces created by artisans from around the world. Every exhibit—from dollhouses and room settings to historical buildings and everyday scenes—is meticulously designed, with astonishing attention to detail that makes each tiny world feel remarkably real.
One of the highlights is the collection of miniature trains and railway landscapes, where moving locomotives travel through beautifully crafted towns, stations, and countryside scenes. The realism is captivating, and visitors often find themselves peering closer to discover details they missed at first glance.
For Harvey, it was a fascinating experience of discovery. He loved spotting the tiny objects hidden within each display and watching the miniature trains wind through their landscapes. The museum sparked his imagination and curiosity, showing how creativity, craftsmanship, and storytelling can come together in the smallest of spaces. It was a delightful reminder that sometimes the tiniest worlds can leave the biggest impressions. And of course he bought a few pieces of the train home!

Our Taipei trip was unlike any of our previous visits. While we had explored the city many times before, experiencing it through Harvey’s eyes made everything feel fresh and exciting again. From hands-on play at Wooderful Land and space adventures at the Taipei Astronomical Museum to discovering tiny worlds at the MJ Miniatures Museum, every stop was chosen with his curiosity and enjoyment in mind.
Staying in the heart of Xinyi District during the festive December season added a special touch, with sparkling Christmas lights and holiday decorations creating a magical atmosphere throughout the city. More than the attractions themselves, the greatest joy came from watching Harvey learn, explore, and experience new things with wonder and excitement.
As we headed home, we took with us not just photos and souvenirs, but precious family memories. This trip reminded us that the best journeys are not measured by how many places we visit, but by the moments we share and the memories we create together. Taipei will always be a city we love, but this visit will hold a special place in our hearts because we got to experience it as a family through Harvey’s eyes. ❤️
