Bowl of steaming herbal chicken soup with mushrooms, herbs, and spices

As a working mum, getting a wholesome meal on the table after a long day can be a real challenge. Between juggling work, family, and everything in between, I’m always looking for recipes that are quick, hassle-free, and nutritious. On weekdays, steamed dishes are my go-to meals because they’re simple to prepare, cook quickly, and require minimal cleanup. Best of all, steaming helps preserve the natural flavours and nutrients, making it an easy way to serve my family a healthy, delicious meal without spending hours in the kitchen.

One of my favourite weekday recipes is this Easy Steamed Cordyceps Flower Chicken. It requires just a few simple ingredients and minimal preparation, yet the result is tender, flavourful chicken infused with the earthy aroma of cordyceps flowers. It’s a comforting and nourishing dish that’s perfect for busy weeknights when you want something healthy without the fuss.

This steamer is perfect for cooking multiple dishes at the same time.

Why Add Cordyceps Flowers to Your Meals?

Despite their name, cordyceps flowers are not actually flowers but the edible fruiting body of a fungus. They are prized in Asian cuisine for their delicate earthy flavour, subtle aroma, and nutritional value. Cordyceps flowers are a good source of amino acids, polysaccharides, and dietary fibre. They are traditionally believed to help support the immune system, improve energy levels, and promote overall wellness. Whether added to soups, stews, or steamed dishes, cordyceps flowers are an easy way to enhance both the flavour and nutritional value of your meals.

Cordyceps flowers are easy to find and widely available. You can purchase fresh cordyceps flowers from most supermarkets, while the dried variety is commonly sold at Chinese herbal shops and traditional medicine stores. Both are convenient options to keep on hand for adding to soups, steamed dishes, and other home-cooked meals.

Preparation Time: 15 min

Cooking Time: 15 min
